School History

The Secondary DAEP was established in 2017 as the official behavior support program for the secondary campuses of Houston ISD. Since our beginning, we have served over 4000 students. Restructured in 2022, our goal is to reconnect the students to the educational community by gaining an understanding of their social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges. The program also provides resources and techniques to overcome those challenges preventing students from thriving in the general education environment. We focus on strategies that assist our students to become global graduates. Students receive Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) instruction during Advocacy classes and individual counseling while enrolled at Secondary DAEP. Our campus partners with approved community support programs and agencies, which yield assistance with holistic support for our children and families.

A key strength of the Secondary DAEP is our ability to address academic and social-emotional learning needs through a variety of activities and actions with our strong support staff. The DAEP addresses student issues as a team, targeting the unique needs of our students

We have three counselors to address students’ academic and social-emotional needs. Our Teacher Specialist provided specialized instructional support and works closely with academic leads. Three At-Risk Administrators provide support with chronic absenteeism through monitoring attendance data and following up with interventions. Our attendance rate for 2024 - 2025 was an average of 81.3%. The graduation support team meets weekly to discuss attendance trends from the previous week and determine the next steps. During the meeting, students with attendance issues are discussed and targeted interventions are put into place.

According to the latest TEA TAPR from 2023 - 2024, 16.1% of our teaching staff have 6-10 years of experience, 22.3% have 11-20 years of experience, while only 4.7% of teaching staff are in their first year of teaching. Our teaching staff boasts 32.7% who have earned a master’s degree or higher. The average years of experience of campus administrators is 8 years.
